Here for the first time is the illustrated history of thirty years of Corvette advertising-beginning with the first ad of May 1953 that officially announced America's sensational sports car scheduled for limited production, to be on display at the Michigan State Fair Grounds Automobile Show June 27. Here is every model, every year, virtually every ad collected together to tell the Corvette story. Highlighting the book is a special sixteen-page full-color portfolio of Corvette ads, official GM posters and rare direct mail campaign literature.
CORVETTE! Thirty Years of Great Advertising begins with an intriguing inside story on the artists, photographers, copywriters, account executives and creative directors whose advertising genius has captured the essence of Corvette for thirty years. Each year of advertisements is introduced with a review of the car's changes in design, engineering, production volume and performance. A special index at the end of the book lists every Corvette ad produced, as well as every Chevrolet ad that includes the Corvette, and gives the name of publication, date, page number and size of each ad to provide an instant locater of the one featuring your favorite Corvette.
CORVETTE! Thirty Years of Great Advertising is the product of several resources. William and Sharon Landis, well-known Corvette ephemerae collectors, provided the advertisements and index. Significant research and assistance came from the official GM Company archives and Chevrolet Division's prestigious advertising agency, Campbell-Ewald, which has created Corvette advertising since the car's inception in 1953. David E. Davis, Jr., editor and publisher of Car and Driver magazine and a former writer of Corvette ads, penned the Introduction and H. Kyle Given, I 11, a senior writer/producer at Campbell Ewald, provided the story on the inner workings of the Corvette ad campaign.
CORVETTE! Thirty Years of Great Advertising inaugurates Automobile Quarterly Publications' new Marque Reference Series', providing vitally needed authentic documentation on individual marques for owners, restorers, collectors and historians. Rare, hard-to-find, expensive and official company produced materials on each marque will now be available in one volume at a price everyone can afford. Each book includes comprehensive appendices and a car portrait portfolio displaying models of the featured marque in full color. In producing this series, Automobile Quarterly maintains its twenty-year tradition as the world's oldest, largest and most prestigious publisher of automotive information.
