528 pages A4 size on 128 gsm acid-free archival paper, liberally illustrated with black and white diagrams and photographs, colour sections featuring many of Australia and New Zealand's beautiful Silver Ghosts, five appendices and a full index. Bound in green buckram with gold blocking on spine and cover, matching ribbon divider, and in a lined slip case.
This is the first comprehensive account of the technical development, over its two decades, of the great model that made the Rolls-Royce name world famous. So supreme were the qualities of the Silver Ghost, that it quickly became recognised as the standard by which all other engineering and manufacture should be judged.
The book traces the emergence of this model from the five immediately preceding it, and divides its development into several distinct types. Within each of these types, the introduction of each important ongoing modification is listed, with evidence from primary sources quoted to support every instance. A final section defines the coachwork styles of its day, and examines the issues of conservation, custodianship, driving, judging, and necessary or desirable adaptations for modern times and roads. Five appendices cover technical theory, Chassis Numbers, Parts Books, Handbooks and clubs.
The aim of the book is to provide absorbing reading for all Rolls-Royce lovers, and to identify areas that need further study and exploration by Ghost owners. It is a tribute to the hundredth birthday of the first appearance of the immortal Silver Ghost, in November 1906, to its production from February 1907, and to its great creator - Sir Henry Royce.
A book which will stand for decades, if not forever, as one of the most valuable works on the Ghost." - Michael Evans Chairman, Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust Rolls-Royce engineer, historian and author
"If a book about an engineering subject can ever be called a 'page-turner' then this is it. Highly recommended for the serious Silver Ghost aficionado, and everyone who calls himself or herself a Rolls-Royce Enthusiast."
- Malcolm Tucker RREC The Bulletin review
"Its a great book. Logical, interesting, and intelligently written. I already have one copy and wanted to get a couple more as gifts for my Ghost owning friends. If you're getting them directly from the author, I'd love it if he might sign them." WECII USA
